One dog is dead and another severely injured after their throats were cut.
Wayne County Sheriff's Captain Richard Lewis says 28-year-old Adam Outlaw of Turkey in Sampson County is charged with Cruelty to Animals, Larceny and Possession of Stolen Goods. Outlaw is accused of stealing two four-wheelers from a home in Mount Olive on May 21.
Captain Lewis says as he was taking the vehicles, dogs at a nearby home started barking. That barking led Outlaw to cut the dogs throats to quiet them, Lewis said. One dog died, and the other suffered serious injuries.
One of the stolen four-wheelers was recovered in Greene County, but the other is still missing.
Outlaw is being held under a $163,000 bond.
