Decision To Close Charter School In Kinston Delayed

The North Carolina Board of Education has delayed a decision whether to close the doors of a local charter school.

Children's Village Academy in Kinston is one of two schools potentially on the chopping block.

The Kinston school's charter is in danger of being lost because of poor financial management.

Children's Village Academy, along with STEAM Academy of Winston-Salem are both tax-payer funded charter schools.

The state board decided this morning to delay a decision on the charter for Children's Village until next month.

The state did decide to revoke the charter of the Winston-Salem school.

Nearly four dozen charter schools have been disbanded since the mid-1990s, when they started operating free of rules governing most public schools.
