Lifequest Inc. In Washington: Will Appeal Closure Notice

Lifequest Inc. in Washington in Beaufort County, a medicaid-funded program that helps adults with mental health issues be independent, has been told it has less than 30 days before it might have to close its doors.

At Lifequest Inc. In Washington on East Eighth Street classes, crafts, and GED programs help 70 clients with mental illness overcome daily challenges and get jobs. After 8 years of service, program directors say they got a letter Tuesday from East Carolina Behavioral Health saying in 30 days the program would be shut down, but it didn't say why- only stating there were problems found in a recent assessment.

"It's not a job for us, so much as it is a ministry and a responsibility for us to impact the lives of those who walk through these doors. If there's something that we've done that can be corrected, by all means we will be compliant with that," said program director Adam Congleton.

Congleton says they plan to appeal the decision. WITN tried to get in touch with East Carolina Behavioral Health, but our phone calls were not returned.
