Learn About Hurricane Preparedness At ECU

Weather experts from the National Weather Service and our Weather Authority Team will be part of a town hall meeting Monday about hurricane preparedness and big, severe weather events.

East Carolina University is hosting its second annual Hurricane and Severe Weather town hall meeting Monday.

ECU's Office of Environmental Health and Safety partnered with the National Weather Service in Newport to organize the meeting, which focuses on the 60th anniversary of Hurricane Hazel, the strongest recorded Category 4 hurricane in our state's history.

The destructive storm hit out coast back in October 1954.

WITN's own meteorologist Matt Engelbrecht will be on the panel along with others, including Greenville Fire & Rescue and American Red Cross representatives.

The meeting is from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at ECU's Willis Building in Greenville.

The event is free and the public is welcomed to attend.
