Kinston's 32nd annual barbecue festival on the Neuse has Kinston leaders enjoying a business boom for the town.
The festival kicked off Wednesday, and Saturday on the final day, the cooking and sauce competition winners will be announced. The festival is taking place on Herritage street, an area where many local business owners say the city has been thriving in recent years.
"We're expecting 25,000 people downtown this weekend, and it's really good to give Kinston exposure. Kinston's kind of been in a downward slump for a while, and it's really in an upswing. And it's good for us to show folks what Kinston's all about.," said Travis Quinn with Mother Earth Brewing.
Quinn says he's expecting big things for the future as the city continues to move forward. The Mother Earth brewery came to herritage street in 2009.
