Kinston's Fill The Boot Campaign To Benefit Locals Living With Muscular Dystrophy

You may notice members of one local firefighting community holding out boots to passersby this holiday weekend, and it's all for a good cause.

More than 50 members of the Kinston Department of Public Safety Fire and Rescue Division, along with Deep Run Volunteer Fire, will fan out across the city this Labor Day weekend with boots in hand to take donations that will benefit local children and adults affected by muscular dystrophy.

Those wanting to donate, can visit the Kinston Walmart or Fit for Life gym on N. Herritage Street Friday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm or this Saturday or Sunday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

North Lenoir Volunteer Fire will also hold a Fill the Boot this weekend at the Piggly Wiggly store on Highway 258.

This marks the 60th year that firefighters have partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the fight against life-threatening muscle disease.

Funds raised through the Kinston Fill the Boot event will help support MDA's programs of worldwide research, specialized health care services, and day-to-day support, which includes sending children affected by muscular dystrophy and related muscle diseases to a week-long, barrier-free MDA summer camp at Camp Hanes in King, North Carolina.
