Kinston City Manager Optimistic About Getting New Baseball Team

The City of Kinston in Lenoir County is optimistic about it's chances of getting a new minor league baseball team.

Since the Kinston Indians left in September of 2011, Grainger Stadium has been teamless. Tuesday night, Wilmington voted against plans to build a new ballpark to house the Atlanta Braves high class-A team. So instead of making the move from Lynchburg to Wilmington, Kinston's city manager says Grainger and The Kinston community could be the answer the Braves are looking for.

"You know we'd be open to the Braves coming obviously. Reasonably speaking they have a large following here and I think a lot of people would like to see the Braves here," said City Manager Tony Sears

Sears says negotiations with organizations usually heat up starting in December, and the city is already fielding some interest. He says their goal is to have a team on the field for the 2014 season.
