Kinston 4th Of July Ceremony Welcomes New Citizens

It is an Independence Day to remember for a handful of people who became American citizens Thursday in Kinston.

The 26 people are from Taiwan, Turkey, Burma and many other places.

The community gathered at the historic Harmony Hall for the ceremony.

Congressman Walter Jones was also on hand to welcome the group into their full time citizen status.

For one new American this is a particularly special day. Suwichak Finneran has served in the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune and was deployed to Afghanistan. He says, "Sure it is special for everyone but um, for me, it just feels right, ya know, that I've been in the Marine Corp and I should definitely, I mean, I served the county."

This event is a tradition for Kinston. It was first held in 2005.
