Jones Wants Answers On Release of 2,000 Illegal Immigrants

Nearly 2,000 illegal immigrants have been released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention centers in what the Department of Homeland Security says is a result of sequestration, and now Congressman Walter Jones and others want some answers.

Jones, along with 36 Republican colleagues, are demanding an explanation for the release.

In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, the lawmakers are seeking answers about who made the decision, how it was determined which detainees would be released, and if there are any future release plans.

The letter says, "The inability of DHS to prioritize resources for potential cuts suggests this decision was either politically motivated to further the administration's amnesty goals or, at best, demonstrates agency incompetence,"
