Actress and director Angelina Jolie has revealed in a New York Times op-ed that she has undergone a preventive double mastectomy.
She writes that through genetic testing, she discovered she has a gene that sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer. Doctors estimated she had an 87 percent risk of developing it.
Jolie decided to be proactive and undergo the double mastectomy as a preventive measure. She finished three months of medical procedures on April 27th.
According to Jolie, her risk of developing it is now less than five percent.
