A US Airways jet lost one of its wheels while taxiing for takeoff at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
The Charlotte Observer reports the plane on a flight to Providence, R.I., managed to stop safely on the runway Wednesday afternoon.
No one was hurt.
The wheel rolled across the tarmac and lodged on the undercarriage of a US Airways Express plane that had just landed from Lexington, Ky.
Officials put the passengers on buses that carried them back to the terminal. Maintenance crews put a new tire on the aircraft and towed it back to the gate.
Both of the planes were inspected by mechanics.
The passengers headed to Providence were booked on a later flight.
