Jeff Charles Continues Battle Against Cancer

Greenville -- Jeff Charles, "voice of the ECU Pirates", went into emergency surgery for colon cancer in early December. Three major operations and more than a month later Charles is back at home in Greenville continuing his battle with cancer.

On Thursday afternoon a very healthy looking Jeff Charles received a surprise visit by the folks at 107.9 FM who have been gathering signatures on a huge banner for the 25 year radio and television veteran. Since being out of the hospital Jeff has gotten lots of support from the "Pirate Nation."

Jeff says he still has an uphill battle with another scheduled surgery and chemotherapy treatment but he says it's days like today that make him proud to be a Pirate.

Jeff spoke on camera to WITN Sports Director Billy Weaver.
