NEW INFO: Jacksonville Mother Charged In Second Child Drowning Case

A Jacksonville mother is out of jail after being charged in the death of her 20-month-old daughter who drowned. The same woman was given probation in a similar case three years ago.

Jacksonville Police say 27-year-old Amanda Reed of Forest Grove Avenue has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Mercadiez Reed May 11th .

The investigation shows the child drowned in a residential swimming pool while in Reed's care. The warrant says Reed was grossly negligent in not supervising the child while the 20-month-old was in the backyard with a swimming pool.

Reed was released from jail on a $30,000 bond after turning herself into Jacksonville police Wednesday morning.

Reed was convicted last year in another toddler drowning. She pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter for the death of a 19-month-old girl who drowned in a rain-swollen drainage ditch in 2010. Investigators said Reed confessed to smoking marijuana and taking a prescription anti-depressant before the child was dropped off at her home to be watched.

The woman was given a suspended sentence in that case.
