Infant Child, Woman Shot At While Trying To Flee Domestic Fight

A woman and an infant escaped injured after police say their car was shot at several times after a domestic dispute.

Elizabeth City police have charged Clinton Franklin with multiple crimes, including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.

Police say they were called just after 9:00 p.m. Sunday to Hunter Street about gunshots fired during a domestic argument.

They say Tairina Spellman was first assaulted by Franklin, who they say is her boyfriend. After the man threatened to kill the woman and her sister, police say Spellman grabbed the child and ran to a car to get away.

Police say Franklin is accused of firing several shots at the car the with woman and child inside, but no one was hit.

The 26-year-old man was jailed on a $136,000 bond.
