Hundreds Of Chickens Killed After Morning Crash

Hundreds of chickens were killed after a truck heading to a processing plant crashed.

The Highway Patrol says Cornwallis Road, west of Rose Hill, was closed for several hours today after the 10:30 a.m. accident.

Trooper B.D. Wallace says the truck driver, Willie McGee Jr., will be charged with traveling at an unsafe speed after his vehicle rounded a curve and wrecked.

The truck from Nash Johnson and Sons was en route to the House of Raeford plant with some 3,000 live chickens.

The company estimated about half were killed. McGee had minor injuries.
