ONLY ON WITN: Man Appears Before Judge In Toddler Murder, 911 Tape Released

A Duplin County man said little during a brief court appearance, the morning after he was jailed for killing and sexually assaulting his girlfriend's young son.

Christopher Bralley is charged with first degree murder, felony child abuse, and a sex offense after authorities say he brutally beat Daybeon Keim to death Tuesday.

The 28-year-old man was given no bond by the district judge who gave him a court-appointed attorney.

Deputies say the two year old died Tuesday after being brought to Vidant Duplin Hospital. Sheriff Blake Wallace says the child's mother, Iyawna Allen, was in jail on unrelated charges at the time, and that Bralley was the child's caregiver when the beating took place.

"This child was brutally beaten and sexually assaulted, and I just hope that justice is served in this case," an emotional Sheriff Wallace told us Thursday evening shortly after the arrest.

An arrest warrant says the toddler suffered a broken neck, broken spine, severe internal bleeding caused by blunt force trauma to the abdomen, severe head trauma, and injuries indicating sexual assault.

Deputies told WITN's Alize Proisy on Friday morning the 19-year-old mother had been released from the Duplin County Jail due to the circumstances surrounding her two-year-old son's death.

Sheriff Wallace said the toddler's father, whose name has not been released, is currently in prison in Ohio for property crimes. Wallace also noted Allen has stated she still had feelings for her toddler's alleged killer and was facing emotional distress after the murder.

Allen and Bralley also have an 8-month-old daughter who is currently in foster care.

A Duplin County man will have his first appearance in court Friday morning after he was arrested for the murder of 2-year old Daybeon Keim.

28-year old Christopher Bralley is charged with first degree murder, felony child abuse, and a sex offense after authorities say he brutally beat Daybeon to death Tuesday. The Duplin County Sheriff's Office tells us Bralley was the the boy's mother's boyfriend and was the caregiver for the child while his mother was serving a domestic violence jail sentence.

The mother, 19-year-old Iyawna Allen, was arrested previously and charged with injury to personal property, injury to real property and and simple arrest. A court date for Allen is scheduled for Tuesday.

Sheriff Blake Wallace gave us his emotional reaction after the arrest was made Thursday.

"This child was brutally beaten and sexually assaulted, and I just hope that justice is served in this case," said Sheriff Wallace.

Bralley is in custody without bond due to the severity of his alleged crimes.

A man has been arrested after a 2-year-old boy died after being brought to the hospital Tuesday morning.

Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace says the toddler was brought to Vidant Duplin Hospital unresponsive around 10:30 a.m. The sheriff says doctors and nurses worked on the child for quite some time to revive him, but could not.

Wallace says the child, who lived outside of Magnolia, was severely beaten.

Lawmen say 28-year-old Christopher Bralley, the live-in boyfriend of the child's mother, has been charged with first degree murder, felony child abuse and a sex offense.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
