A homeless man is behind bars after Onslow County Deputies say he forced a woman to drive him to a gas station at gunpoint.

Deputies say that 29-year-old Garrick Freitas was arrested on U.S. 17 south near Verona about 3 miles from the Circle K he ran from.

A woman says that she had taken some friends to a motel at NC 24 and Western Boulevard.

When she walked back to her truck, officials say she found Freitas in the passenger seat around 1:50 a.m. Saturday.

When the victim asked him why he was there, that's when investigators say he pointed the gun at her and made the demand.

The victim wasn't injured.

Freitas is charged with 2nd degree kidnapping and assault by pointing a gun.

He's being held on a $40,000 bond.
