Home-School Student In Pitt County Takes Statewide Art Honor

A home-school student from the east won her category in the 2013 North Carolina aviation art contest.

Michaela Barker of Grimesland in Pitt County painted a picture of four hot air balloons flying over the trees titled "Tranquil Flight."

The 12-year-old won the intermediate category in this years contest.

Barker will be one of seven students to represent North Carolina in the national aviation art contest.

National winners advance to the international competition.
