ECU junior pitcher Jeff Hoffman talked with the media after being selected 9th overall Thursday night in the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft. One of the topics he touched on was his time playing in Greenville.
Hoffman becomes the highest drafted ECU athlete in school history. Blue Edwards previously held the record when he was taken 21st overall in the first round of the 1989 NBA Draft.
The ECU right-hander was 3-3 with a 2.94 ERA this year for the Pirates. His season was cut short after experiencing soreness in his right arm. Hoffman elected to have season-ending Tommy John surgery.
The junior's best performance this year was against MTSU on April 17th. He struck out a career-high 16 batters in a 1-0 East Carolina win.
