A Highway Patrol sergeant has been put on desk duty after his arrest on Monday in a domestic violence case.
Sgt. Tim Askew was charged with misdemeanor assault on a female by Nash County deputies. The victim was the trooper's wife.
The 44-year-old Askew is assigned to the Highway Patrol's Motor Carrier Enforcement Section in Raleigh.
A police report says the victim told deputies that her husband was upset with her Monday morning because she didn't wash his clothes. She told deputies the argument became physical after she tried calling for help.
The wife said her husband chased her into the kitchen, pushed her into the wall, grabbed her arm and shoved her to the ground. She told deputies she was able to get up, run and lock herself in the bathroom and call 911.
The report says the couple has a previous history of domestic violence with five prior incidents and that there is a domestic violence order in effect.
1st Sgt. Jeff Gordon says Askew was placed on administrative duty pending an on-going internal investigation.
Askew is an 8-year veteran of the Highway Patrol.
