A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
The Highway Patrol tells us the person killed in an SUV crash into a power pole on Saturday, was a 13-year old boy.
Troopers say around 12:30 P.M. on Highway 42 west of Colerain, a 2003 GMC SUV ran off the road, and hit a utility pole, causing it to fall to the ground.
The driver, was Amber Osborne. There were six other passengers in the car. Troopers tell us when Osborne stepped out of the vehicle, she felt a shock in her feet and legs. As she tried to warn everyone else to stay inside, witnesses say her 13-year old son, Zachary Stoyer, stepped outside.
Troopers say witnesses tell them Stoyer came in contact with some power lines, and was apparently electrocuted, falling to the ground. CPR was administered, but he died shortly after.
No one else was seriously injured. Troopers say they were heading to Stoyer's basketball game at the Hertford County Recreation Center.
