Highway Patrol & Subway Team Up For "W8 2 Txt" Campaign

The NC Highway Patrol and Subway restaurants are teaming up to get the word out about the dangers of driving while distracted.

Troopers are calling the campaign "wait-to-text-Wednesdays"(W8 2 txt)and are setting up a miniature road course outside various Eastern North Carolina Subway restaurants.

From 4:00 to 7:00 pm each Wednesday through April, the public is invited to try their luck driving a golf cart through a traffic cone course while texting on their cell phone. The goal of the campaign is to let people experience for themselves just how dangerous texting and driving is within a safe environment.

Troopers held the first event in Ayden and say they hope to hold similar events in Farmville, Beaufort, and other locations in the coming weeks.

Anyone willing to give the course a try gets a free sandwich coupon.
