A winter storm warning is in effect today for Beaufort, Dare, mainland Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell and Washington counties. A winter storm advisory is in effect today for the rest of Eastern Carolina. The threats are snow, sleet and freezing rain.
Weather created problems at some area high school football games Friday night, as heavy rains and lightning moved through Eastern Carolina.
The game between North Pitt and Conley at Conley has been postponed until 7 p.m. Saturday.
Earlier Friday, the game between New Bern and Hillside was also postponed. Kickoff in New Bern will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Manteo vs. Currituck game has been postponed until Saturday at 6 p.m.
The Northside Jacksonville vs. West Carteret game was stopped in the second quarter. The score was 0-0. It will resume Monday night at 7.
Wallace-Rose Hill was beating South Brunswick 27-0 when the game was called in the second. It is slated to resume Saturday at 10 a.m.
The North Duplin vs. Southside game at Southside was stopped at the half. The score was North Duplin 20 - Southside 6. The game will resume Monday at 7 p.m. at Southside.
The game between Plymouth and Farmville Central has been cancelled Friday night and will not be made up.
Several games were delayed, including Havelock vs. Washington,
Creswell vs. Northside Pinetown, South Creek vs. Robersonville,
Rose vs. Athens Drive and Riverside vs. Ayden-Grifton. Those games then resumed once the lightning passed.
Other games that faced delays included Pamlico vs. Croatan and South Central vs. Perquimans.
Football kicked off in Eastern Carolina Friday night, at high school fields from the coast to points inland.
