Heavy Rain Flooded Greenville Roads, Yards Monday

Pitt County emergency dispatch says several people were stranded in flooded streets in Greenville Monday night, and some had to be rescued after driving into deep water. Several inches of water covered Arlington Boulevard near Red Banks road about 7:00 p.m. Monday night.

Emergency crews responded to several areas including Westhaven Road, Sterling Pointe Road, and Dunhaven Drive in an area between Memorial Drive and Evans Street near Regency Boulevard. We spoke with Eddy Thornton about his yard flooding on Corey Road.

"Over by the ditch and out by the ditch near the front yard, it's a good foot to 14, 16 inches deep," said Thornton.

At the Elm Street Park in Greenville the heavy rain also did some damage to a roof near the concession stand. The over-hanging awning collapsed onto the pavement just across from the baseball field around 8 p.m. Monday.
