A slow-moving cold front will approach eastern Carolina early Friday bringing periods of heavy rainfall and a few thunderstorms. A couple of storms may be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts. Rainfall will average around one inch, with locally heavier amounts. The showers and storms will gradually taper off Friday morning with some sunshine expected in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s as the sun breaks through the overcast.

Cooler readings are on tap for the weekend with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Skies will be mostly sunny on Saturday but clouds will increase a bit with the threat for a few showers Sunday afternoon and evening. Dry and mild conditions are expected early next week.
