UPDATE: Sanitation Workers Hold Public Hearing Saturday

Some Greenville sanitation workers attended a public hearing Saturday afternoon to discuss complaints about their working conditions and what steps they should take next.

State NAACP leader Rev. William Barber led the panel.

It was back in November that some sanitation workers in Greenville conducted a brief work stoppage to protest working conditions.

Saturday at the public hearing several city workers spoke about those conditions saying some problems included under-staffing, disrespect, favoritism, low wages, and a lack of voice.

In response to those complaints a Workers Rights Board was set up. The board, chaired By Rev. Barber, will issue a formal report of findings on March 1st to the public.

Public workers director Wes Anderson is resigning effective Feb. 24. Anderson has said he was determined to resolve the matter satisfactorily and convened at least three meetings of a committee comprised of managers and employees.

Here is a list of the people that make up the Workers Rights Board:

Rev Barber, NC NAACP President
Representattive Jean Farmer-Butterfield
