A church parking lot became a crime scene early Friday morning after reports of shots fired.
Elizabeth City police say nearly a dozen spent shell casings were found in the parking lot and street behind Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church on North Road Street.
It happened around 1:45 a.m.
A source told police that a white man and two black men were standing in the parking lot when a small dark car drove down Cypress Street. The white man shot at the car, and witnesses say the car's rear window was shot out.
Police say they searched the area and found no damage.
