A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
The head of a government accountability advocacy group says University of North Carolina officials appear to have violated state law when they criticized a reading specialist who concluded that some basketball and football players couldn't read at a third-grade level.
The letter from the president of the Government Accountability Project says school officials' actions make UNC-Chapel Hill look like a bully.
GAP President Louis Clark urged UNC-CH to investigate whether school officials harassed or intimidated Mary Willingham, who worked with athletes. He also demanded the names of a third-party independent board that school officials say is investigating Willingham's analysis.
In response, a UNC spokesman said Friday he expects a review of Willingham's data to be released soon. Spokesman Joel Curran says the school will make the review public.
