Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Tuesday in Bertie County for a new high school.

The new $20-million school on Highway 13 is expected to open in the fall of 2014.

Sophomore Quadasia Giliam say it's an exciting thing to look forward to. "I hope my peers will take care of the high school and respect it because it's a great opportunity."

The current Bertie County High School was built in 1964 and is in poor shape.
