A nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank has given Greenville high marks when it comes to its economy and job creation.

The Milken Institute has released its annual Best-Performing Cities report, with Greenville breaking into the Top 10 at number nine for Best-Performing Small Cities in 2014.

The Milken Institute's annual index ranks 200 large and 179 small, U.S. metropolitan areas by how well they are creating and sustaining jobs and economic growth.

According to the report, Greenville moved up four spots since 2013, partly because of a solid one-year wage growth and more recent job growth, signaling that Greenville's economy is on the rise.
