A Greenville woman is preparing to celebrate her birthday this weekend, and ironically, she's turning 98, on 9/8...September 8th.
Elizabeth Drake is a retired piano teacher at ECU, but was still playing away for us Friday afternoon at her home.
She taught piano for over 30-years before retiring, and has lived at her home in Greenville for 49 years.
Drake says she's deaf without her hearing aid, but remembers how to play various songs just by touch, or by reading the music off of paper.
She says she has a hunch that a surprise party is being planned for her birthday. Drake says, "I don't know but I'm sneaking to think that I'm going to have a party sometime this weekend. They haven't told me, but they've cleaned up the house, and they're buying things."
Drake says she was born in 1915 in Scotland Neck in Halifax County and says she's seen it all through 98 years, living through several wars and other historical events.
Happy Birthday from everyone at WITN.
