The Town of Winterville is facing a lawsuit from a Greenville police officer arrested by Winterville police three years ago this month.
Lukisha Pittman filed the suit on April 10th.
She's seeking $10,000 for each of the six counts. Those include malicious prosecution, emotional distress , false arrest or imprisonment and assault and battery.
The lawsuit says Winterville Officer Darren Hignite arrested Pittman in April of 2011 for resisting an officer after police said she refused to give officers her name, yelled at the officer and tried to get in her car despite warnings not to. Police were called to the parking lot of Roberts Welding after a call about a fight.
Pittman was reinstated by Greenville after an internal investigation by her department, while the criminal case against the woman was eventually dismissed.
The town says it plans to defend themselves and have requested counsel from the state League of Municipalities.
