Greenville Police: Armed Robber Takes Cigarettes, Quickly Arrested

Greenville Police say a man walked in to the Wilco-Hess at 3000 Stantonsburg Road around 1:30 Thursday morning and threatened the clerk with a knife, then took cigarettes.

A police dog began tracking the suspect toward Park West Drive.

The police dog led officers to 1285 Park West Drive where police located the suspect, 52-year-old Michael Wayne Nelson.

Officers found stolen cigarettes from the suspect's apartment.

Nelson was arrested and charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He was jailed at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.

Nelson has prior arrests for larceny, burglary, and obtaining property by false pretense.
