UPDATE: GPD Chief: Assault Case Against Officer Dismissed

Greenville Police Chief Hassan Aden confirms with WITN an assault case against Greenville Police officer Eric Robinson was dropped in Nash County Thursday.

Chief Aden says Robinson has not been reinstated to active duty yet, but that is expected soon.

Officer Robinson, a 7 year veteran of the department, was placed on administrative leave after he was charged in Nash County in April.

There is new information about what may have led to a Greenville police officer being arrested in neighboring Nash County.

Officer Eric Robinson is on administrative leave after being charged with assault Monday afternoon.

Police say on Sunday, Robinson was at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, attending an event at the Dunn Center, when he allegedly became involved in a confrontation with another person. That person got a warrant against the officer through the Nash County Magistrate's Office.

North Carolina Wesleyan says it happened at a private event where no students or college personnel were involved. A college spokeswoman says organizers told them that a fight broke out in the parking over one of the awards handed out by the "Against the Odds" club.

Robinson is a seven year veteran of the police department and has had his police powers suspended until the case in Nash County is resolved.

A Greenville police officer has been placed on administrative duties after his arrest today for something that happened in Nash County.

Officer Eric Robinson reported to the Pitt County Magistrate's Office to be served a warrant for misdemeanor assault this afternoon.

Police say on Sunday Robinson was at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, attending an event at the Dunn Center, when he allegedly became involved in a confrontation with another person. That person got a warrant against the officer through the Nash County Magistrate's Office.

The 41-year-old Robinson is a seven year veteran and Greenville police have suspended his police powers until the the case in Nash County is resolved.

GPD's Internal Affairs Division is investigating what happened.
