There are 20 tons of free sweet potatoes in Greenville available for families in need.

The Food Bank of Greenville received a donation of 40,000 pounds of the sweet treats Thursday morning and is offering them free to the public. Food bank workers are calling it the first ever "sweet potato party" for the food bank and say anyone is welcome to fill up boxes and bags with as much as they want Friday and Saturday in the parking lot across from its 9th Street warehouse in downtown Greenville.

The donation comes from Southern Produce, a long time supporter of the food bank, and workers say it will go a long way toward feeding the community.

"My God it's tremendous. 40,000 pounds of anything is fantastic when there's such a humongous need for food," said Chrystal Andrews
with the food bank.

You can pick up the potatoes from 8am to 5pm Friday and 9am to 1pm Saturday at the warehouse across the street from 497 West Ninth Street in Greenville.
