Greenville Fire Chief Retiring

There will soon be a new "help wanted" listing at Greenville City Hall. The city's fire chief says he is resigning.

Chief Bill Ale says he will retire on March 25. Ale came to Greenville from Spartanburg, South Carolina in September 2010.

In an email to his staff, Ale said the decision came after many months of thought. "I have decided that 36 years working in local government as a firefighter is long enough," said Ale.

Deputy Chief Eric Griffin is expected to be named interim fire chief until a new one is named.

Greenville is still looking for an assistant city manager and a human resources director. At one point last year the city had four top positions vacant.
