Greenville City Council Increases Property Taxes By A Penny

The Greenville City Council has voted to increase the property tax by one cent.

Mayor Allen Thomas says the vote came during a nearly five-hour city council meeting Monday evening.

Thomas says the vote was 4-2 in favor of the move. He says it's the third time in six months that the same four council members- Calvin Mercer, Marion Blackburn, Rick Smiley and Richard Croskery- have voted to raise the property tax.

Thomas was not allowed to vote but voiced his displeasure with the move, saying it comes amid rising utility rates.
