Governor Beverly Perdue discussed football with ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard and Athletics Director Terry Holland on Tuesday. Perdue was a guest speaker at the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Brook Valley Country Club and voiced her opinion on conference realignment.
"The thing I think a governor can do and do very effectively is let the other governors and other decision makers and these other schools that might have a vote understand what a fabulous school (East Carolina University) is," said Perdue.
East Carolina, currently a member of Conference USA, has publicly stated the university is in favor of being a member of a conference with an automatic qualifier for football's coveted Bowl Championship Series. Conference USA's annual football champion currently does not qualify for a BCS Bowl.
The college football landscape could change drastically in the near future. On Sunday the Atlantic Coast Conference announced it would expand to a 14-team league with the additions of current Big East members Pittsburgh and Syracuse.
