North Carolina's governor is this week's speaker in the weekly Republican address opposite President Barack Obama.
GOP Gov. Pat McCrory said Saturday that governors need Washington to grant states more flexibility, independence and accountability.
McCrory says Washington has shown weak leadership, while the country's 30 Republican governors are innovating to improve the lives of their citizens. He says he's concentrating on improving the state's economy, education system, and government efficiency.
But McCrory needs permission from the Obama administration to revamp North Carolina's Medicaid program in his vision of bringing together physical health with mental health, substance abuse and other social service needs.
McCrory also says the president should grant governors the ability to develop energy resources by allowing offshore oil and gas drilling.
