A woman is accused of setting fire to the home she and her boyfriend shared.

Kinston police have charged Nekecia Brown with first degree arson and burning of personal property.

A police officer was flagged down by Robert Lang III around 1:20 p.m. Monday near the couple's home on East North Street. Lang told the officer that his girlfriend was setting fire to their home.

The officer saw Brown pulling burning items out of the home, he called for the fire department and then arrested the woman. Damage to the home is estimated at $30,000, while $1,000 in contents was destroyed.

The fire department had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes.

Due to the domestic assault charge, Brown is being held under no bond.
