Gaston County Commissioners Want Hospital To Drop 'Cheat Death' Slogan

Gaston County commissioners are asking a local hospital to drop their newly adopted "Cheat Death" slogan, saying it has embarrassed the region.

The Gaston Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/10DC0RP ) that county commissioners told a news conference Friday that they were overwhelmed by negative reaction from the community as well as from some hospital workers. They asked officials from CaroMont Regional Medical Center to reconsider the campaign.

The commissioners were also upset that they weren't consulted about the marketing plan beforehand.

CaroMont spokeswoman Penny Cowden said the commissioners have a right to their opinion, but adds that the hospital is trying to do what's best for a community in a health crisis.

The hospital cites studies that show Gaston County residents are among the least healthy in the state and the nation.
