A gas leak forced some people to evacuate their homes in Washington.
Washington Fire-Rescue says they were called about a gas leak on Grimes Rd. around 8:15 a.m. Monday.
Grimes Road is off of Highway 264 near the intersection with Highway 17.
Captain R.M. Flowers say a construction company replacing water lines hit the underground line with a backhoe.
Piedmont Natural Gas capped the leak this morning.
Flowers says about a half-mile section of Grimes Road remains closed, while the 25 to 30 people evacuated have been allowed to return.
