Four-Mile State Highway Finally Opens After 5 Years Of Work

A four mile long state highway that took some five years to complete is finally opened.

With no fanfare or announcement, the Department of Transportation opened the latest section of the C.F. Harvey Parkway in Kinston late last week.

Designated as NC Highway 148, the four lane road connects the Global TransPark with U.S. 70.

The $127.8 million project began with right of way purchased in 2005. Construction actually began in 2009, and last year the D.O.T. said completion was delayed because of funding problems.

The connection with U.S. 70 required building a new interchange and relocating a portion of the busy east-west highway.
