Former Sheriff, Longtime Patrolman Dies At 77

Law enforcement officers are preparing to say goodbye to one of their own.

Former Jones County Sheriff, Robert Reynolds Mason Sr. of Lillington passed away at his home on Monday.

The 77-year-old served two terms as Sheriff of Jones County and spent 25 years on the Highway Patrol serving Jones, Lenoir, Johnson, and Wayne counties.

An obituary for Mason says he was a United States Army veteran, a Mason, and a Shriner.

Mason Sr. is survived by his wife, three children, and four grandchildren.

Services for Mason will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Lillington.
