Former Principal Charged With Sex Crimes With Students

A former middle school principal has been arrested for sex crimes.

Cumberland County deputies on Friday charged David Edwards of Fayetteville with two counts of second degree forcible sex offense, two counts of sexual acts with a student and five counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Deputies say there were three victims, with the crimes happening at Ramsey Street Alternative School and Douglas Byrd Middle School between 2009 and 2011. The boys were between the ages of 11 and 14 years old, and at least one occasion, deputies say the crimes happened while a parent unknowingly sat in a waiting area of the school's office.

Edwards resigned as principal six weeks ago and is being held on a $140,000 unsecured bond.

Deputies say there may be other victims and urge them to contact the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at 910-323-1500.
