Former MLB Top Draft Pick Headed To Federal Prison

A former baseball star from Eastern Carolina will spend the next three years and two months in a federal prison.

U.S. District Judge Louise Flanagan today sentenced Brien Taylor in New Bern. The former New York Yankees pitching signee pleaded guilty in August to distributing crack cocaine.

The 40-year-old Taylor was arrested last year after the feds say he sold nearly 40 grams of cocaine base to Carteret County deputies. They say that was the third drug buy involving Taylor.

Taylor played for East Carteret High School and was signed by the New York Yankees after the 1991 Major League Baseball draft. Taylor never played for the team because of an arm injury.
