First On WITN: Fire Destroys Elderly Woman's Home

A fire that broke out Christmas morning sent an elderly woman to the hospital and destroyed her home.

It happened at 8:30 am Christmas morning on the 1800 block of Daughters Drive in Newport .

Fire officials tell WITN that once they arrived to the assisted living unit it was fully engulfed in flames.

It took Newport, Wildwood, and Morehead City fire departments only a few minutes to put out the blaze.

The elderly woman who was inside the home escaped with minor burns and was transported to the hospital according to officials.

There is no word on what caused the fire at this time. The fire is under investigation.
