Greenville Fire Officials: House Fire Intentionally Set

Greenville fire officials say a fire at a vacant house in Greenville Friday morning was intentionally set.

The blaze broke out around 10:30 at West 5th Street and Latham. People reported seeing the smoke for miles.

Officials say the house was vacant and did not have utilities hooked up.

Battalion Chief Shannon Terry told WITN late Friday that Greenville Police are now investigating the blaze after it was determined it was intentionally set.

Officials say a Greenville police officer was treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries have been reported.

Terry says the fire spread quickly and all the way to the attic because the house was old construction and didn't have firewalls.
