Investigators said they got a call about a fire at 2:40 Thursday morning to 3214 Summer Place in Greenville.
Greenville Police said the fire started in apartment 5 and spread upstairs to apartment 10.
Greenville Fire Rescue ruled the fire suspicious and has called out their fire investigator.
Nearly a dozen fire trucks responded to the fire.
The Red Cross was on scene to help the families who were displaced.
Officials said two families lived on each side of the building.
We know that 3 adults and a 2 year-old were home when the fire started, but no one was injured.
