Nine-Year-Old Killed, Father Charged For DWI Crash Near Edenton

Briar Altman

A father faces charges in a driving while impaired crash which troopers said killed the man's 9-year-old son and left his other son injured.

Our Norfolk affiliate, WAVY, reports 45-year-old Richard Altman was driving while impaired and going too fast when he flipped his truck on Route 218 near Edenton Saturday.

Troopers told WAVY that Altman's 9-year-old, Briar Altman, was thrown from the truck and killed.

In the process, Altman's other son, a 14-year-old, was also injured. The teen was taken to the hospital and has been released since then.

The accused father was flown to a nearby hospital and has since been charged with DWI.

More charges for Altman are pending, according to officials.
